Helpful Hints for creating your wiki
  • Don't use spaces or capital letters when naming your wiki.
  • Make the name fairly short and easy to remember.  Don't forget that ".pbwiki.com" is going to be added to the name, which lengthens it.
  • If you plan to have students contributing to this wiki, make the password easy for your students to remember and to type.
  • On your first page, DON'T use the "New Page" button.  Instead, EDIT your first page so that it contains what you want visitors to see first.
  • It's good to have a welcome message on your first page as well as stating the purpose for your wiki.
  • You might want to also identify the grade level, and/or town or school district to give people an idea of who is creating this wiki.

Karen V:I share similar thoughts as to some of the past participants in that I am still sorting things out and trying to see where I could use wikis as a special education teacher- perhaps there are places within what I do. I still need to grasp exactly what wikis do, and as there are few educator examples for use with k-6 students, I guess I am not alone here. I think I need to play more and perhaps create my own wiki to see how and build a better understanding of wikis.
linda wolf:Wow! I am totally amazing myself that I can navigate through the Wiki and I can even post a comment. This was very interesting and I can't wait to try it out.
Sara:I really enjoyed this. I'm feeling very comfortable with the wiki, and am looking forward to trying it out in the classroom. I think it has a lot of good possibilities for an English class.
